Jewellery Specialist Liz Bailey MA FGA DGA CPAA

Liz is a jewellery, watches, silver and designer specialist with years of experience in the auction world. With career highlights to date including the sale of a 10ct diamond solitaire ring for £50,000, a 4ct Art Deco diamond ring for £18,000, and countless special finds from boxes of costume jewellery and house clearances! Her years of experience coupled with her keen and current market interest set her apart from other specialists in the area in this field.

After graduating university in 2012, Liz gained her first job in the auction industry, and the history of the objects, together with the excitement and drama of sale day really captured her interest in the industry. Deciding to specialise in Jewellery and Silver, Liz worked in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter for one of the UK’s leading regional jewellery auction houses whilst completing her FGA and DGA qualifications from the Gem-A, achieving top marks in each. Liz remains an active participant in the Gem community, and can frequently be found at Gem-A conferences and talks up and down the country. She is also a member of the Society of Jewellery Historians.

In 2020, Liz re-founded the North West branch of the Gem-A, providing jewellery professionals and gemmology enthusiasts with a group in which to enhance their education, partake in socials and benefit from a regional gemmological 'hub.' Liz is the chairperson of the North West Gem-A Branch and thoroughly enjoys organising a range of events throughout the year for the members, including Zoom presentations, talks, preview viewings, trips and practical sessions together with the other members of the committee. For further information on how to take part in the North West Gem-A group, contact Liz directly.

Naturally, all jewellery is of interest to Liz but she is especially interested in the history of jewellery design. As such, she completed a Master’s Degree in Antiques, specialising in Georgian Sentimental Jewellery from the University of Central Lancashire in 2017, achieving a first-class honours and focussing her dissertation on Lover’s Eye Jewellery. Liz has had her work published in magazines such as Gem-A’s Gems & Jewellery, Antiques Info, as well as having press releases published in national media outlets such as BBC News, Daily Mail and ITV News. She regularly features in Antique Collecting Magazine with jewellery articles.

Liz is dedicated to constantly furthering her knowledge, and takes pride in her qualifications gained so far. She has recently ventured into Designer Handbags and Fashion, an area that has always interested her keenly, having collected her own array of bags over the years!

In an industry like ours, it is more important than ever to have faith in the specialist knowledge you are being provided. Liz strives to provide an honest, confidential, well-informed and professional service to all of her clients, achieving the best possible prices for vendors and buyers alike.
