A celebrated Danish jeweller and silversmith, Anton Michelsen worked as an apprentice for eleven years before setting up his own workshop in 1841. In 1848, he was appointed Court Goldsmith and Maker of Orders to the Danish court. Anton's son Carl took over the family firm in 1877 and followed his father's footsteps, becoming Court Jeweller himself in 1880. A true family firm, Carl's son joined as a partner in 1914 and continued the company when his father died in 1921. At the start of the 20th century, Anton Michelsen began to create enamelled silver jewellery and works, as well as collaborating with artists of the day such as Ole Hagen, Erik Herløw and Edvard Kindt-Larsen. In 1985, A. Michelsen was merged with the Royal Porcelain Factory, Georg Jensen and Holmegaard Glasværk under the name Royal Copenhagen.
Anton Michelsen jewellery is renowned for its clean, sleek and wearable designs that are just as in vogue today as when they were made.
