Alessandro Castellani was born in 1823 into a family jewellers, celebrated as excellent craftsmen. Under Alessandro's care, the business became known as the heart of the Revitalist jewellery movement, taking inspiration from medieval pieces in the family collection. Alessandro published 'Antique Jewellery and its Revival' in 1862, sharing the application of ancient jewellery making techniques. Inspired by archeological finds and excavations of the time in the Mediterranean, Castellani's work included filigree, granulation, micro mosaic and intaglios.
