Wilson55 Auctioneers & Valuers are privileged to bring the work of Jocelyn Burton to auction with a previously unrecorded group of eight silver and garnet napkin rings in her unique, unmistakable and unforgettable "Baroque Modern" style.
Jocelyn Burton (British 1946-2020) is widely regarded as one of the leading silver and goldsmiths of the late 20th and 21st centuries with her work held in prominent public and private collections including 10 Downing Street, Longleat, The Fitzwilliam Museum, York Minster and St. Paul's Cathedral; she forged a path for women in the industry, winning numerous prestigious prizes and awards including being the first female recipient of the Prince Philip Medal (2003), the top award of the City and Guilds of London Institute, and the United Kingdom Jeweller Award for her work with silver (1995).
This exciting lot presents a very rare opportunity to acquire eight of these beautiful and dramatic napkin rings, comprising two sets of four hallmarked for London 1975 and 1978 respectively (the earlier set with large marks), of heavy gauge with ornately cast 'shell' design in high relief against a textured ground, each set with an assymetrically cut garnet.
