In 1944, the British Ministry of Defence (MoD) ordered timepieces from twelve of the best contemporary watch companies for use by British troops on the front line in World War Two. Buren was one of this selection of 'Dirty Dozen' watchmakers tasked with creating government issued timepieces for thousands of servicemen. Together with Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor and Vertex, Buren created 'Wrist. Watch. Waterproof' timepieces with broad arrow marking, black dial, arabic markers, luminous dots and hands, and subsidiary seconds dial to 6.
Buren produced 11,000 of the 150,000 Dirty Dozen watches commissioned. Featuring the standard design with pencil hands, and cal. 462 movement within a 36.5mm chrome top screw on case, these watches are certainly worth selling at auction, with prices rising year on year.
