George Weil Jewellery
George Weil was born in Vienna in 1938. On the outbreak of World War Two, his Jewish family fled to Antwerp. Weil studied jewellery at St Martin's School of Art in London, and founded his Hatton Garden-based company 'George Weil Jewellery Ltd' at the age of 18. Creating jewels and sculpture, Weil produced portrait busts of Winston Churchill, Sammy Davis Junior and many other iconic figures.
His sculptural style and techniques can be seen in his bold jewellery, playing with texture, proportion and shapes. A contemporary of Andrew Grima, Weil was experimental with his use of gold, semi precious and precious gemstones in jewels. He produced bold pieces for the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth II. A master in many disciplines, Georges Weil closed his jewellery studio in 1979 and later emigrated to Isreal where he continued to produce artworks.
