Mappin & Webb

Although traced back to 1775 in Sheffield, Mappin & Webb’s London store was opened by Joseph Mappin in 1849, retailing silverware to great success. Jewellery and watches followed as a natural progression from the silverware.

In 1898, Mappin & Webb’s acclaimed campaign watch was supplied to troops at the battle of Omdurman. In 2016, this campaign watch was re-issued to great acclaim.

Mappin & Webb have created jewellery for countless royalty and high society, including Princess Grace of Monaco, Marie Antoinette and Queen Victoria. Indeed, Victoria’s Golden Jubilee necklace was created by Mappin & Webb.

In 1970, the Royal Warrant Holder and Court Jeweller Carrington & Co. was acquired by Mappin & Co.

The company’s master craftsman Mark Appleby is the current Crown Jeweller to the United Kingdom.

Renowned for their timeless craftsmanship and quality, Mappin & Webb jewellery and watches typically sells very well at our jewellery auctions, with top prices achieved for pieces in good condition.
