Thinking of selling your Leonidas watch? Our specialist team is here to help. With a broad range of exquisite timepieces produced in its 144 year history, the Leonidas name commands real interest at auction from collectors worldwide.
Leonidas watches can sell particularly well at auction, appealing to collectors worldwide. Examples of particular interest to bidders over the last couple of years include early stainless-steel chronographs, calendar watches and dials with moon phases.
Timepieces with subsidiary dials to 3 and 9, featuring pushers to 2 and 4, and outer telemeter, calendar, tachymeter and seconds scales are all hallmarks of this wonderful watchmaker pre 1960s.
On the other end of the spectrum, vibrant Leonidas watches from the 1970s, in particular the ‘Easy Rider’ collection sell particularly well with younger collectors.
Pocket watches by Leonidas can also perform well at auction, with silver cased examples showcasing multiple subsidiary dials, as well as pieces with military collections continuing to exceed estimates.
In 1964 Leonidas was merged with Heuer. The Heuer-Leonidas movements were eventually phased out in 1985 when the Heuer company became Tag Heuer.
The twenty-one years of the Heuer-Leonidas partnership saw the creation of some exceptional, highly sought-after, and valuable timepieces. Heuer Autavia, Carrera, Camaro, Monaco, Cortina, Silverstone, Monza, Verona, Calculator, Montreal, Skipper, Daytona, Mareographie, and Orvis Solunagraph are amongst the models that boast a signed Heuer-Leonidas movement from this pivotal time in horological history and command a premium at auction.
True to Leonidas’ heritage, stopwatches from this time signed ‘Heuer-Leonidas’ to the movement also perform exceptionally well under the hammer.
